Several years ago, I took a motorcycle safety training course.

During the course, the instructor asked: "When you enter a dangerous
curve, where are you looking?" All three of us answered, "At the curve."
The teacher then asked:"What are you looking at?" One old biker replied:
"I am looking for soft rocks." The instructor then told us that we should be
looking past the curve and the danger. In short, we should keep our focus
on where we want to be, instead of planning on what to do if the situation
turns bad.
In Matthew 14: 25-31, Peter finds himself in a similar situation. Some
authors have suggested that Peter sank. Not because of his lack of faith,
but simply because he took his eyes off of Jesus.
I have since found out that this phenomena is called "object fixation".
Basically, where you are looking is where you will end up. Focus on
God, and look beyond the pit-falls and the temptations.
                                                        God Bless,
